- Define/Discuss Success & Expectations: Identify what the team’s success and expectations look like. You want all team members on the same page.
- Set Team Goals: This should be a joint effort, Team members should discuss team and individual goals they want to accomplish as it relates to the team’s success.
- Discuss Values & Respect: Take time to find out the values of your team members and what they believe constitutes respect.
- Discuss Responsibility & Commitment: Make sure each team member accepts their roles and responsibilities with in the team. Also make sure that they are committed to the team and the success of the team.
- Nurturing the Team Development: Offer praise & support.
- Make Sure Team Works Together: Utilize the collective to find solutions to difficult problems. Make sure everyone understands this concept as opposed to only working on their own.
- Lead by Example: Having Role models for the Team to look up to can add to a positive team culture.
- Be Patient: Teaming does not happen over night. There are growing pains associated with all teams especially when members are unfamiliar with working with each other.
- Communicate: Be sure that the lines of effective communication are open between members to each other, members to leader, and leader to members.
- Offer Team Building Activities: It’s important to lift morale by having team members interact outside of the work or teaming environment. This allows team members to get to know each other in a different light.
